Our Wild Roots
In 2001 our founder Tara Wood, returned to her childhood home on the Kenyan coast with a science degree from Oxford and set up her ‘jungle gym’.
Having grown up in nature, she knew that our modern lifestyles were causing us problems, from stress and malaise to chronic injuries.
Inspired by the rejuvenating effects she saw on those who immersed themselves in the wilderness of her Kenyan home, Tara designed an experiential course called ‘Wildfitness’.
Her vision? To help anyone rediscover the joy and transformative power of their own natural potential.
The Three Pillars of Wildfitness
Our philosophy centres around three core pillars.
Human minds and bodies evolved over hundreds of thousands of years in nature. Modern society constrains movement, does not provide us with enough meaningful rest and undernourishes, all in an environment detached from nature.
Using the three core pillars that our philosophy sits upon, Wildfitness considers the capabilities of humans from an evolutionary perspective to create fun and playful ways for the mind and body to become more mobile, resilient, strong and adaptable, all while encouraging a reconnection with nature and, ultimately, concluding in the restoration of vitality and health.
The Three Pillars of Wildfitness
Our philosophy centres around three core pillars.
Wildfitness, put simply, is the practice of listening to your body and mind and responding to your instinctual needs to move naturally, for deep relaxation and for unprocessed food.
This philosophy is as powerful as it is simple and has the potential to change your life.
Pillar One: Wild Living/Sleep
Learn how respecting your body’s natural rhythms and natural stressors, quality rest and restorative recuperation will help you to feel rejuvenated, balanced and less stressed.
During your time with us we will provide you with the skills needed to implement all that you learn into your daily lives back home…helping you to live that little bit wilder.
Pillar Two: Wild Eating
Modern lifestyles have a way of complicating our relationship with food. On our retreats we will help you to understand the simplicity of food by providing you with an abundance of delicious, locally sourced, home cooked meals that will leave you feeling nourished, lean and energised.
Most importantly, head home feeling empowered with the principles needed to continue a life of eating well and living healthily.

Pillar Three: Wild Moving
Learn how moving with grace, intensity and joy will help develop a lean, strong and injury-free body. Boost brain power with skilful exercise, reconnect with yourself and the world around you as you learn to use nature as your gym.
Intelligent exercise and nutritious eating are only part of the equation when it comes to well-being. Here at Wildfitness we help to restore all elements needed for healthy minds and bodies, including immersion in nature, social contact and physical recovery.
